The subsequent inquiry brought to light incriminating evidence: a smartphone discovered in the very toilet cubicle Shevchenko frequented, accompanied by a note later identified as his handwriting. A second phone was also found in the same location. Tournament regulations, a common fixture in modern chess, explicitly require all players to surrender electronic devices, including mobile phones, to arbiters before play commences. This fundamental rule, designed to safeguard fair competition, was clearly breached.
From Disqualification to Disgrace: The Disciplinary Process
