Carlos Alcaraz`s coach shared his thoughts on the young Spaniard`s remarkable ability to perform under pressure. Juan Carlos Ferrero specifically commented on Alcaraz`s performance in the Roland Garros final against Jannik Sinner, where he saved three match points and ultimately triumphed in the deciding tie-break.
“I think he is simply born to play in moments like these. Every time we have found ourselves in such situations – even when he was younger and competing in Challengers, ATP 250 and 500 tournaments, during those years when big opportunities arose for him – he always aimed to seize them,” Ferrero stated.
He continued, “In these moments, of course, the stakes are significantly higher than in other tournaments. However, I believe his playing style remains consistent. We strive to mentally prepare him for situations such as a fifth-set tie-break. He immediately embraces the challenge at the first chance he gets. He consistently plays aggressively and seeks to win every single point.”
Ferrero also reflected on the broader impact of Alcaraz and Sinner`s rivalry on the sport. “For tennis, it is absolutely amazing to witness players like them emerge following the era of Roger, Rafael, and Novak, who is still actively competing. The rivalry between Carlos and Jannik is simply incredible.”
“They are competing for the sport`s biggest trophies, and we should be thrilled to have such intense competition within our game. Each of them steps onto the court understanding that playing at the absolute highest level is necessary to achieve victory. This mutual challenge pushes them both to become even stronger,” he concluded.
