Alex Perez and Steve Erceg are both seeking a much-needed victory as they are set to compete.
The UFC announced on Sunday that the veteran flyweight contenders are scheduled to meet at UFC Vegas 109 on August 9th. The event is also confirmed to be headlined by a previously reported middleweight bout featuring Roman Dolidze and Anthony Hernandez.
Both Perez and Erceg hold positions within the top 15 of the flyweight rankings, with Perez at number 10 and Erceg at number 12. Despite having previously challenged for a title, both fighters are currently experiencing a dip in form.
For Perez (25-9), his recent record shows only one win in his last five appearances. After breaking a three-fight losing streak – which included a loss to then-champion Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 255 – with a knockout win over Matheus Nicolau, Perez returned to the loss column when he sustained a knee injury during his fight against Tatsura Taira in June 2024.
Erceg (12-4) is also on a losing streak that began following his title shot. The Australian fighter lost a competitive decision to champion Alexandre Pantoja at UFC 301 and has since suffered defeats in his subsequent two fights against Kai Kara-France and Brandon Moreno.
