World No. 2 tennis player, Alexander Zverev, has commented on his dip in form after the Australian Open 2025 final. Since that tournament, the German athlete has not won more than two matches at any single event.
Zverev stated, “After the Australian Open, I made mistakes because that tournament was very challenging for me psychologically. I believed I could win the title. I lost in the final to an incredible Jannik Sinner, who outplayed me on all levels. I need to be honest with myself. It was very tough mentally. I was very upset about losing another final.”
He continued, “I returned home and started training the very next day. I didn`t give myself enough time to process what had happened, calm down, and rest. I didn`t take care of myself at all. I immediately started training and then flew to South America.”
Zverev believes, “It seems to me that the results of the last few weeks could be a consequence of my wrong decision.”
He added, “In a way, I was lucky that I lost in the first match in Indian Wells. Of course, I didn`t want to lose at all. Nobody ever wants to lose. But thanks to that, I had two weeks to rest a little and work, because I really wasn`t playing very well.”
“There are elements in my game that I can always rely on. In Indian Wells, even those weren`t working. I had time to work on my game and my psychology. I hope this has helped me start with a clean slate, and I will perform successfully here.”
When asked, “Where did you work on your game?”
Zverev responded, “In Indian Wells. Until Thursday or Friday – I don`t remember exactly – of the second week, we lived there in a great hotel, and then we came here.”
He concluded, “Here, I didn`t come to the tournament grounds. I did everything privately and distanced myself a little from the tennis world,” said Zverev during a press conference at the Miami tournament.
