Alexander Zverev on Loss to Berrettini: I Let the Match Slip Away Again

World No. 2 Alexander Zverev is unhappy with his recent results. The German player was defeated by Matteo Berrettini in the second round of the Monte Carlo Masters, with a score of 6-2, 3-6, 5-7.

“After Australia, I haven`t won many matches. So, the last few months have been the worst period since my ankle injury,” Zverev stated.

“I played great in the first set, but as soon as I lost serve in the second, I started playing ten levels worse. My shots became much slower, and I just stopped hitting the ball at all.”

“And it’s been like this for the last few months. Nothing changes. So, I let the match slip away myself again. I think my level was awful, but that’s just my opinion.”

“The thing is, I’m losing. It’s very simple. If you win one or two of these matches, there won’t be any more questions. But I’ve lost three-set matches in Buenos Aires, in Rio, in Indian Wells, in Miami, here. I haven’t won any of them. So, it’s about these kinds of matches,” Zverev said at the press conference.
