Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova on First Win in Three Months: ‘I Just Fought for Every Point, and the Result Didn’t Matter Anymore’

World No. 52 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova commented on her victory over Katie Boulter in the first round of the Rome tournament, winning 6/3, 6/3. This marked her first win in three months, ending a four-match losing streak that began in February in Abu Dhabi.

Asked about her feelings after securing the first victory in three months:

“I hadn`t won and hadn`t played full matches since almost Australia. I`ve probably only played two or three matches after the AO, which I lost. So, of course, it was very nerve-wracking to play today. And I still feel like I`m not 100% where I want to be. But I just fought for every point, and the result didn`t matter anymore. I simply wanted to play as many matches as possible, probably to get into rhythm for Roland Garros.”

Regarding her next opponent, Sofia Kenin:

“Well, actually, the last match we played was in Abu Dhabi. I won that one, and then my results went downhill after that. But I played well and aggressively there, and I`m also happy with my game today. I just need to keep going and build up my form, and I hope it all works out.”
