Andrey Rublev Loses Fifth Consecutive Match to Top 5 Opponent

World No. 14 Andrey Rublev was unable to advance to the quarterfinals at Wimbledon.

He was defeated by the reigning champion, Carlos Alcaraz, with a final score of 7:6(5), 3/6, 4/6, 4/6. This loss marks Rublev`s fifth consecutive defeat against a top-5 ranked opponent. His record against top-5 players in Grand Slam tournaments now stands at 0 wins and 11 losses.

Since 2020, the Russian player had consistently reached at least the quarterfinals at one of the first three Grand Slam events of the season (last year, this was the Australian Open). However, following that Australian Open, Rublev has failed to progress past the fourth round in the subsequent six Grand Slam tournaments.
