Armand Duplantis Named Laureus Sportsman of the Year

Swedish pole vaulter Armand Duplantis, a multiple titleholder including two-time Olympic and World Champion and the absolute world record holder, has been awarded the `Sportsman of the Year` title at the Laureus World Sports Awards 2025.

Duplantis competed for this title against the following athletes:

  • Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz (tennis, four-time Grand Slam champion, world No. 3)
  • Dutchman Max Verstappen (motorsport, four-time Formula 1 champion)
  • Frenchman Leon Marchand (swimming, four-time 2024 Olympics champion)
  • Slovenian Tadej Pogačar (cycling, three-time Tour de France champion)

According to Laureus regulations, the shortlists for nominations are formed by voting from over 1,000 sports media outlets across more than 70 countries. Subsequently, the Laureus World Sports Academy selects the winners from these shortlists.
