Aryna Sabalenka Prefers Playing on Court Philippe-Chatrier

World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka shared her reasons for preferring to play on Court Philippe-Chatrier at Roland Garros.

When asked about playing on Court Suzanne-Lenglen for the second time this tournament – notably, the first time a top seed has played two matches on that court since 2019 – and whether the scheduling mattered to her, Sabalenka responded:

“Of course, I would prefer to play on the biggest courts. But on the other hand, not everyone can get tickets for the central court [Chatrier]. So playing on another stadium, which is also large and beautiful, in front of spectators who managed to get tickets there, is also great.”

“Honestly, ideally, I would want to play on Chatrier. Why I was scheduled on Lenglen for the second time, I don`t know; it`s not my decision. But I don`t want to complain: I won, I`m happy. I hope from now on I will only play on Chatrier – I`m entitled to it, right? It`s okay,” she added with a smile.

Sabalenka elaborated on what makes Court Philippe-Chatrier special for her: “Court Philippe-Chatrier is an amazing place for tennis, it`s so spacious. When you step onto it, you immediately feel it: this is it, this is the big stage, this is my place. It`s precisely there that you want to give your all, fight, and show your best tennis. It`s all about the energy of that stadium,” she stated during her press conference.
