World No. 13 Ben Shelton has advanced to the third round of the Madrid Masters in Spain. In his second-round match, the American secured a hard-fought comeback victory over Mariano Navone of Argentina with a score of 4/6, 7/6(5), 6/3.
Following the match, Shelton commented on his progress and adaptation to the clay surface: “Step by step. Match by match. Trying to feel more comfortable and learn something every day. I`ve played on a lot of clay courts already this season. When I play on them, win or lose, I`m learning something. Just enjoying this experience over here in Europe. Feeling like I`m doing the right things. Not getting too frustrated by the little stuff. I know on clay you don`t have to be perfect, but you do have to be tough.”
His next opponent will be Jakub Mensik from the Czech Republic.
