Ben Whittaker Secures Knockout Victory and Addresses Spitting Claim

Ben Whittaker resolved one controversy in his rematch with Liam Cameron, only to find himself embroiled in another immediately after his victory.

Six months after their initial bout ended in a draw when both fighters went over the ropes, Whittaker and Cameron finally settled their rivalry. In Birmingham, England, Whittaker (9-0-1) defeated Cameron (27-6-1, 1 NC) by a second-round knockout on Sunday. The fight concluded when Whittaker staggered Cameron with a powerful right hand, followed by a rapid series of punches that prompted the referee to halt the match.

Following the fight, Whittaker faced accusations of spitting in the direction of Cameron’s corner, leading to a new wave of controversy. He addressed these allegations in a post-fight interview with Sky Sports.

“It was just emotion, I was just like: ‘Yeah, come on!’” Whittaker explained. “If a bit of dribble came out… he knows I would never do something like that intentionally.”

Video evidence appears inconclusive regarding whether Whittaker actually spat at Cameron’s corner.

Whittaker, a silver medalist in boxing at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, has been recognized as a rising talent in professional boxing since 2022, largely due to his captivating and unconventional fighting style.
