Boxing Star Gervonta Davis Faces New Battery Charge Following Father’s Day Incident

WBA lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis has once again found himself in legal trouble, reportedly arrested in Florida on a battery charge. The arrest stems from an alleged physical alteration with his ex-girlfriend that occurred on Father`s Day, June 15th, outside her residence in Doral, Florida.

According to reports detailing the Doral Police Department`s arrest findings, the incident unfolded during a scheduled child pickup. Davis and his ex-girlfriend share custody of two children. An argument reportedly arose during the exchange, leading Davis to state he would no longer be taking the children.

The situation allegedly escalated when the ex-girlfriend reached into the backseat to retrieve their daughter. At this point, Davis is accused of striking her in the back of the head and subsequently slapping her face. While the alleged incident took place in Doral, the 30-year-old boxing star was reportedly arrested later, on Friday morning, in Miami Beach.

This latest arrest marks another significant entry in Davis`s history of legal entanglements, particularly those involving allegations of domestic battery. It is, by reports, the third time he has been cited for allegedly assaulting a woman.

Notably, Davis faced charges of simple battery/domestic violence in February 2020 after a widely circulated video showed him aggressively dragging a woman away from a celebrity basketball game. Again, in December 2022, ahead of a major title defense, he was charged with battery domestic violence following accusations from a woman who claimed he slapped her and caused her to fear for her life. While that specific accusation was later recanted, allowing him to proceed with his fight, the pattern of such allegations continues to surface.

Adding to a turbulent year for the champion outside of the ring, Davis also navigated a controversial bout against Lamont Roach in March, which ended in a majority draw. During that fight, Davis took a knee in the ninth round, claiming issues with eye grease, a moment that was not ruled a knockdown and ultimately helped him retain his belt.

The present battery charge adds another layer of complexity to the career of one of boxing`s most prominent figures, highlighting ongoing challenges in his personal life that intersect with his public profile. The legal process is now underway regarding the Father`s Day allegations.
