Brandon Moreno is confident he deserves to headline UFC 320, the Noche UFC event in Guadalajara, Mexico on September 13.
After defeating Steve Erceg, Moreno immediately looked to the future, hoping for another shot at the flyweight title. The UFC announced the September pay-per-view just before his fight, and Moreno sees it as perfect timing to pursue a fourth fight with champion Alexandre Pantoja.
“Guadalajara is the goal,” Moreno stated at the post-fight press conference. “It’s ideal for the UFC and the promotion. For a Noche UFC pay-per-view event in Guadalajara in September, I’m the obvious choice.”
Moreno`s logic is strong, especially for an event celebrating Mexican Independence Day.
The challenge for Moreno is convincing the UFC to grant him another title fight against Pantoja, given Pantoja has won all three of their previous encounters. One win was on The Ultimate Fighter, not officially recorded, but Pantoja won their two subsequent fights, including the title bout in 2023.
However, Moreno believes his ability to attract fans and his consistent performance in the flyweight division should warrant consideration.
“Today, I have enough reason to say I should main event the Guadalajara pay-per-view in September,” Moreno asserted.
“We’ll see. Hunter [Campbell] seemed pleased with the crowd. Flyweight popularity is always questioned, which is strange. But I truly believe I excite the fans every time I fight. That’s undeniable. Let’s see what happens.”
The UFC Mexico event was a sell-out with 19,731 attendees and the highest-grossing Fight Night gate at over $2.53 million.
These factors favor Moreno`s request to headline the next major UFC event in Mexico.
Pantoja’s next title defense is yet to be scheduled, but he is expected to return before September, with Manel Kape and Kai Kara-France as potential opponents.
Moreno is eager to fight in Mexico again, especially after securing his first win there following an 0-2-1 record in Mexico City early in his UFC career.
“After every loss in Mexico City, I was confused,” Moreno reflected. “I was working hard and not getting the results. This time, I cleared my mind, focused, and executed.
“This fight week felt different. I had experience and energy, and we got the win. I’m happy.”
