Welcome to the live blog coverage of the UFC Mexico flyweight main event: Brandon Moreno versus Steve Erceg, taking place Saturday at CDMX Arena in Mexico City.
Brandon Moreno, currently ranked #4 in the flyweight division, will face off against Steve Erceg, who is ranked #13.
Moreno, a former two-time flyweight champion, has experienced a challenging period recently. After losing his title to Alexandre Pantoja in 2023, marking his third defeat against Pantoja, he also lost a rematch to Brandon Royval at UFC Mexico last year. However, Moreno bounced back with a unanimous decision victory over Amir Albazi in November and aims to solidify his position in the title contention picture with a strong win against Erceg this Saturday.
Erceg`s UFC journey has been quite rapid. Since joining the promotion in 2023, he quickly made his mark by defeating David Dvorak, who was ranked in the top 15 at the time, in his debut. He followed this up with two more victories, including a notable knockout of Matt Schnell, which earned the Australian fighter a title shot against Pantoja in just his fourth UFC fight. Unfortunately for Erceg, he lost to Pantoja by decision and then suffered a knockout loss in his subsequent fight against Kai Kara-France in August. Erceg hopes to break his two-fight losing streak by securing a win against the former champion this weekend.
