Following his submission loss to Jean Silva at UFC 314 on Saturday, Bryce Mitchell admitted he had no excuses.
Their fight became a major talking point of the event. Silva showed impressive striking and grappling skills, controlling Mitchell throughout the match. In the second round, Silva secured a ninja choke, causing Mitchell to submit.
After the fight, Mitchell used social media to discuss his defeat and express his disappointment with the unexpected outcome.
“Thank you for all the support. I`m okay,” Mitchell stated on Instagram. “Grateful to God for protecting me. No broken bones or lost teeth, which is good. I fought as hard as I could, maybe not as smart.”
“I need to make changes. He defeated me completely; I had nothing more to offer. I`m glad I gave my best effort, but I need to improve. That’s the key takeaway – improvement is needed.”
This fight came after a tough period for Mitchell. He faced public backlash for controversial statements he made on a podcast, where he defended Adolf Hitler and denied the Holocaust, leading to a shift from fan favorite to a criticized figure.
At the pre-fight press conference, Mitchell was booed by the audience, an unusual experience for him.
However, Mitchell mentioned feeling support from fans who remained loyal to him during the fight night.
“The amount of support I’ve received is incredible,” Mitchell said. “It’s been a really intense week, hard to describe.”
“I truly believed I would win. I was completely confident, especially with the fight gaining so much attention unexpectedly. I felt destined to win, but it didn`t happen.”
This loss marks Mitchell’s third defeat in his last five fights, including a knockout loss to Josh Emmett in 2023.
Despite the disappointment, Mitchell promised to continue working hard to improve before his next UFC fight.
“I will keep fighting, that’s the only option,” Mitchell concluded. “Whenever you lose, you learn and keep moving forward. That’s my plan.”
