Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez is facing a prison term and has received support from the fighting community.
He was sentenced on Monday for his involvement in a February 2022 incident. This incident involved a high-speed car chase where Velasquez fired shots at a vehicle carrying Harry Goularte.
Goularte is awaiting trial on child molestation charges, and Velasquez`s four-year-old son is allegedly a victim in this case.
Velasquez received a five-year sentence for attempted murder and related charges. He entered a no-contest plea, and with credit for time served, his remaining prison term is expected to be no more than two years.
Many fighters, including Chris Weidman, have expressed their support for Velasquez, with Weidman describing the situation as “awful”.
