World No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz shared insights into his physical condition during the ATP Masters 1000 event in Rome. The Spanish player reached the fourth round of the tournament by defeating Serbia`s Laslo Djere with a score of 7/6(2), 6/2.
Alcaraz had previously withdrawn from the Madrid tournament due to an adductor injury in his right leg. He also mentioned discomfort in his left hamstring earlier.
“I tried my best to recover from the injury, and then I caught a cold, so I had to manage that too,” Alcaraz commented in his on-court interview. “When you step onto the court, you try not to think about it and just keep fighting. Sometimes it`s tough, but it`s great that I won in two sets because it helps save energy for the upcoming matches.”
He added, “At the start of the Masters tournaments, there`s a rest day between matches, which also helps conserve energy, as it gets harder with each match. I`m very happy to win in straight sets and hope to play better in the next round.”
