Chris Eubank Jr. will pay a significant price for failing to meet the required weight for his upcoming clash with Conor Benn.
The highly anticipated fight between Eubank and Benn is set to headline an event in London this Saturday. During the official weigh-ins held on Friday, Eubank initially came in 0.2 pounds over the agreed 160-pound limit. His subsequent attempt registered at 160.05 pounds, still marginally missing the target by 0.05 pounds. This resulted in a substantial fine of $500,000 (£375,000), as stipulated by a weight clause in his contract.
Furthermore, Eubank is subject to an additional restriction: he must not weigh more than 170 pounds during the fight-day weight check on Saturday, just hours before the intense matchup.
Following news of the fine and weigh-in issues, Conor Benn, who successfully made weight at 156.4 pounds, shared his reaction on Twitter, appearing visibly pleased with the turn of events.
“Show me the motherf*cking money,” Benn posted.
Eubank also took to his Instagram page to offer his perspective.
“Pain is temporary… glory is forever,” Eubank wrote.
The path to this grudge match in London has been fraught with complications. The fight`s status could still be in question depending on Eubank`s ability to adhere to the fight-day weight limit. The 35-year-old Eubank is entering the ring after securing two consecutive knockout victories, while the 28-year-old Benn boasts an undefeated professional record across all 23 of his bouts.
This event marks Benn`s first fight in 14 months, his last contest being a decision win over Peter Dobson in February 2024.
