Coco Gauff Discusses Dominant Rome Victory Over Emma Raducanu

World No. 3 Coco Gauff of the United States commented on her commanding victory over Britain`s Emma Raducanu with a score of 6/1, 6/2 in the Round of 16 at the WTA 1000 tournament in Rome, Italy.

“I was very pleased with how I played today,” Gauff said. “It was a great performance, and I felt like I was in control and dictated play for most of the match. My forehand was one of the main reasons I won today, and I`m really happy with how it`s progressing. I felt better than in my previous matches. These courts still feel very slow compared to Madrid, but I`m getting more used to it with each match.”

“It was very windy, especially in the second set,” she added. “Without a doubt, it played a big factor in the match. I`m from Florida, so I`m pretty used to conditions like that. Sometimes you just have to embrace the wind, knowing you`ll always have to take an extra step for movement. There will be a lot of points that aren`t pretty; a lot of them were like that in the second set. But that`s part of playing tennis in the wind – it`s not always beautiful.”

Gauff`s opponent in the quarter-finals in Rome will be 18-year-old Russian Mirra Andreeva, whom she recently defeated in the quarter-finals of the previous WTA 1000 event in Madrid with a score of 7/5, 6/1.
