Cage Warriors 186 witnessed a new record for the fastest knockout, but it was immediately followed by controversy.
During the event in London, Yannick Bahati achieved a knockout against Charles Joyner in just four seconds, establishing a new record for the promotion. While the speed of the knockout impressed many and drew a strong reaction from the audience, closer inspection revealed contentious actions. These included a perceived feigned glove touch and the grabbing of Joyner’s glove just before the knockout blow was delivered.
Veteran MMA fighter Tom Lawlor commented on the incident after viewing the footage. He described Bahati`s actions as a “chump move,” pointing out that Bahati had gestured for a glove touch, then seemingly used the opportunity to control his opponent`s hands before landing a decisive right hand for the 4-second KO.
Bahati has addressed the criticism he has received since securing his Cage Warriors victory, his first win in nearly five years. In a response on his Instagram, Bahati stated, “There was no fake glove touch from my side, only hard work. I offered a glove touch, but when there was no response, I proceeded with my game plan. I was completely focused and determined to deliver a message to my sons.”
It`s worth noting that Bahati and Joyner had previously faced each other in November at Cage Warriors 181, where their match ended in a split draw via technical decision.
