UFC President Dana White has indicated that negotiations are progressing towards finalizing the highly anticipated fight between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall.
In a recent interview, White stated that the matchup is definitely going to happen. He emphasized that it’s now just a matter of finalizing the agreements and getting the contracts signed. He reassured fans that the fight is in the works and will come to fruition.
The Jones versus Aspinall fight is considered by many to be the most significant contest the UFC can currently arrange for the undisputed heavyweight championship.
White reiterated the fight’s inevitability, saying it is essentially agreed upon but not yet officially finalized to the point where a date can be publicly announced. He repeated that the remaining step is to complete the signing process.
Aspinall has been out of action since his victory over Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304 last July, where he defended his interim UFC heavyweight title. Jon Jones last fought in November at UFC 309, where he defeated Stipe Miocic to defend his UFC heavyweight title.
According to White, he and his team believe this upcoming fight is potentially the biggest heavyweight fight the UFC has ever organized. He anticipates that once the fight is officially announced and promoted, it will become the most significant heavyweight fight in the history of the UFC.
Aspinall has expressed his growing impatience with the delay in Jones signing the contract. He has publicly urged Jones to either agree to the fight or retire from competition.
Aspinall argues that Jones has no other viable options, stating that Jones must either face him or retire. He believes that if Jones chooses to retire, it will be perceived as an admission of avoiding a fight with him, as Aspinall sees no other logical opponent for Jones at this time.
