UFC President Dana White is currently not planning for Conor McGregor to fight in the near future.
During a recent interview, White provided an update on McGregor, who has been inactive since suffering a severe leg injury against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021.
While White had previously expressed optimism about “The Notorious” returning in 2025, the future for the UFC star now appears uncertain.
White directly stated, “He`s not fighting anytime soon.” He added, “I haven`t talked to him in a minute, but yeah, I don`t know.”
McGregor`s potential return has been complicated by several factors. In addition to pursuing ventures outside the octagon, such as a role in the 2024 remake of Road House, McGregor also sustained a toe injury that forced him to withdraw from a scheduled bout against Michael Chandler this past June.
The 36-year-old Irish fighter was recently found liable for sexual assault in a civil lawsuit related to a 2018 incident in Dublin and is also currently facing another civil suit for an alleged sexual assault in Miami in 2023.
Although McGregor has shared training footage on social media, it remains unclear if this indicates a genuine intention to compete again.
White is always seeking out new talent, though he believes no fighter will ever replicate the unique path of Conor McGregor.
He stated, “There will never be another Conor McGregor,” placing him in the same category as unique figures like Ronda Rousey, Chuck Liddell, and GSP. “Somebody will pop up.”
White emphasized that fighters “make themselves,” adding that while personality is a bonus, his primary focus is identifying the best fighters in the world, with their stardom development being up to them.
