World No. 82 Daniel Altmaier shared his opinion that Jannik Sinner is not at fault in the anti-doping rule violation. Sinner was previously suspended for three months due to clostebol and is expected to return to the Tour at the Rome Masters in May.
“I’ve spoken with Jannik personally, and he doesn’t seem like someone who would intentionally violate anything. It was probably an accident,” Altmaier stated. “I think with many who get caught in doping cases, it’s accidental. I don’t believe that many players intentionally use doping.”
“Sometimes you’re just unlucky. But everyone should be treated equally, regardless of whether you are ranked 100th or 1000th. This must be strictly observed. I understand why many are disappointed. In Sinner`s case, I repeat, I don’t think he did anything intentionally,” Altmaier concluded.
Alex de Minaur also commented on Sinner’s situation, saying: “Jannik is a terrific guy. I can’t say anything bad about him.”
