Djokovic Reaches 100 Wimbledon Wins: “It’s a Great Honor”

World No. 6 Novak Djokovic commented on achieving his 100th victory at Wimbledon. By defeating Miomir Kecmanovic 6/3, 6/0, 6/4 in their match, Djokovic reached the significant milestone of 100 career match wins at the prestigious grass-court Grand Slam tournament. This achievement places him firmly in second place for the most men`s singles victories at Wimbledon, trailing only the legendary Roger Federer, who holds 105 wins.

Reflecting on his journey, Djokovic stated, “I`ve said many times that tennis has profoundly shaped who I am. It has blessed me with so much in life and countless unique experiences. I make a conscious effort to appreciate everything I have, especially now, at my age. I`m still actively competing against younger opponents, constantly moving across the court, sliding, and even doing splits.”

He further emphasized his connection to the tournament, adding, “Wimbledon isn`t just my favorite tournament; it represents a dream for the vast majority of tennis players worldwide. Nearly every child who picks up a racquet dreams of playing and winning here one day. I feel incredibly fortunate to have had the opportunity to do so on so many occasions. Any new chapter I get to write here, at my most cherished tournament, is something I consider a tremendous honor.”

Asked about similarities with rising star Jannik Sinner: “Jannik recently mentioned that he`s learned more from you than perhaps any other player in terms of his playing style. When you observe him on court, do you recognize aspects of yourself or elements of your game?”

“Yes, absolutely, I do,” Djokovic confirmed. “It`s clear that we share a similar fundamental playing style. We both aim to play aggressively and take control of rallies from the baseline. I recall meeting him when he was very young, perhaps just 13 or 14, and playing with him briefly. He was slender and tall, somewhat resembling me physically at that age. Even then, he possessed significant power in his shots. It was evident he had exceptional timing and shot speed. Interestingly, he even uses the same Head Speed racquet model that I do. So, there are quite a few points of commonality.”

“However, it`s important to note that he is distinct and unique in his own right,” Novak stressed. “The progress he and his team have achieved over the past few years has been truly remarkable. While people often talk about the raw speed of his shots, his timing is frankly incredible. I believe he has successfully minimized the unforced errors that might have been more prevalent in the earlier stages of his career. Now, he demonstrates incredible precision and consistently applies pressure on his opponents through his very rapid and aggressive game,” Djokovic concluded during the press conference.
