Double Injury Forces Cancellation of Tafa vs. Tokkos Bout at UFC Des Moines

A scheduled fight at UFC Des Moines has been cancelled due to a highly unusual circumstance: both fighters involved have suffered injuries.

The promotion confirmed on Tuesday that the light heavyweight contest between Junior Tafa and Tuco Tokkos is off Saturday`s UFC Fight Night event set to take place at Wells Fargo Arena. The reason cited for the cancellation was injuries sustained by both competitors.

Specific details regarding the nature or severity of the injuries were not revealed. However, the UFC intends to reschedule the matchup for a future event once both Tafa and Tokkos have recovered and are healthy.

Junior Tafa is coming off a second-round TKO victory over Sean Sharaf last October, a win that ended a two-fight losing streak. Tuco Tokkos`s most recent outing was a unanimous decision loss to Navajo Stirling at UFC Tampa in December.

As a result of this double cancellation, the UFC Des Moines card is now expected to proceed with a total of twelve fights. The event will still be headlined by the five-round bantamweight main event between top contenders Cory Sandhagen and Deiveson Figueiredo.
