Emma Raducanu: Rediscovering Fighting Spirit and Focus on Every Point

World No. 60 Emma Raducanu shared her thoughts on her progress at the Miami tournament. The British player has reached the WTA 1000 quarter-finals for the first time in her career.

“I’m currently playing better than I was in Australia. It’s very challenging because the conditions are constantly changing, but I’m particularly proud that I’ve found my fighting spirit and I’m focused on every single ball. I think I`ve been missing this in recent months and even years.”

“For me, the main victory of this week is feeling this hunger, competitive spirit, and desire to chase every ball.”

– Do you feel like you`re stepping onto the court with a winning mindset? You seem much more confident than at the start of the year. Can you compare?

“Yes, I believe so. I go out there knowing that I will be focused on every point, on every ball. It’s working really well so far. Honestly, I’m very pleased.”

“I think I’ve started thinking less on the court, which is probably a good thing. I’m trying to trust my instincts more, because that’s when I play my best tennis. I don’t think – I just fight for every ball, and then let my instincts take over,” Raducanu said at the press conference.

Emma Raducanu on her match against Anisimova: I felt something was off with my opponent. It’s hard to stay focused when she’s either making mistakes or hitting the lines.
