UFC lightweight contender Mateusz Gamrot has voiced his displeasure regarding the behavior of certain fighters within the division`s top 15.
Despite holding the No. 7 ranking, Gamrot states he`s had difficulty securing bouts against higher-ranked or prominent opponents, even though he has actively sought such matchups. He recently highlighted an instance involving the top-ranked contender, Arman Tsarukyan, who reportedly turned down a main event slot for the upcoming July card in Abu Dhabi, despite Gamrot holding a prior victory over Tsarukyan.
However, this seems not to be an isolated incident.
This Monday, Gamrot publicly criticized the No. 13 ranked Benoit Saint Denis. Gamrot claims Saint Denis declined an offer for a short-notice fight scheduled for this Saturday at UFC 315. Saint Denis was originally slated to face Joel Alvarez on the main card, but Alvarez withdrew due to a hand injury, leaving an opening that the UFC has not yet filled. Gamrot reportedly offered to step in but was allegedly rejected.
Addressing Saint Denis`s alleged refusal, Gamrot posted online, “BSD turned down the fight next week, what’s wrong with you guys? Grow some balls, cowards!”
It isn`t entirely bleak news for Gamrot, however. “Gamer” is scheduled to compete later this month against the unranked Ludovit Klein. Their fight will serve as the co-main event at UFC Vegas 107. Klein has been performing well since returning to the 155-pound division, currently holding an unbeaten record of 6 wins and 1 majority draw.
