Gilbert Burns issues statement after loss to Michael Morales at UFC Vegas 106

Despite his recent defeat, Gilbert Burns maintains a positive outlook.

On Saturday night, competing in the main event of UFC Vegas 106, Burns suffered a first-round stoppage loss to Michael Morales. This marked Burns`s fourth consecutive defeat, prompting discussions among fans regarding the 38-year-old`s future in the sport. However, “Durinho” seems undiscouraged.

The following morning, Burns released his initial statement addressing the loss, including expressions of gratitude and congratulations directed at Morales.

“I am thankful for this journey! I remain incredibly blessed! Naturally, this wasn`t the outcome I was hoping for, particularly in this specific fight. I dedicated myself to incredibly hard work, as those who watched can attest. But this is the fight game, and this is life! Congratulations to Michael Morales; I wish you and your team every success! There`s nothing sad about this; it is what it is! I am grateful for this wonderful journey and for all the lessons it brings! God is good, always! All honor, praise, and glory go to Him, whether in victory or defeat!”

A decorated world champion in both gi and no-gi Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Burns also previously challenged for the UFC welterweight title, losing to Kamaru Usman at UFC 258. His professional mixed martial arts record is currently 22 wins and 9 losses.
