A welterweight match-up featuring Gilbert Burns and Michael Morales has been shifted from UFC 315`s main card on May 10 to the main event of UFC Vegas 106, taking place at the APEX on May 17.
The announcement of this change was made during the UFC 314 broadcast on Saturday.
Gilbert Burns is currently ranked No. 7 in the welterweight division by MMA Fighting Global Rankings. Michael Morales, who remains undefeated, is close to breaking into the top 15.
The reasons behind moving the fight from Montreal to a Fight Night event in Las Vegas are not yet known.
Burns, with a record of 22-8, is aiming to break a three-fight losing streak. His recent losses were against current champion Belal Muhammad, and top welterweights Jack Della Maddalena and Sean Brady. Since his title challenge against Kamaru Usman in 2021, Burns has a record of three wins and four losses in his last seven fights, bringing his overall UFC record to 15-8.
Morales, representing Ecuador and boasting a perfect record of 17-0, is heading into the most significant fight of his career. He has secured five consecutive UFC victories after a successful showing on Dana White’s Contender Series. His most recent win was a first-round finish against Neil Magny in August, which also earned him a bonus.
UFC 315 will be headlined by a welterweight title fight between Belal Muhammad and Jack Della Maddalena, with Valentina Shevchenko defending her flyweight title against Manon Fiorot in the co-main event.
