Despite not having any fights scheduled, Henry Cejudo recently had a real-life opportunity to use his skills outside the octagon.
This past Saturday, a video shared by Cejudo`s producer, Dylan Rush, detailed a story where the former UFC two-division champion reportedly assisted in detaining a suspect in his neighborhood. The suspect was involved in a car crash and allegedly assaulted a homeowner.
In the video clip, Cejudo explains that he and Dylan Rush witnessed a car speeding at approximately 80 mph. They then heard a loud noise and saw the vehicle crash into a neighbor`s yard after going up a ramp.
The video footage uploaded by Rush shows the suspect being wrestled to the ground and a man, presumably Cejudo`s neighbor, with a visible head injury. Cejudo stated that the neighbor was attacked by the driver after the crash, prompting Cejudo to intervene.
Cejudo recounted that after the crash, the suspect attempted to flee and then assaulted the homeowner, who Cejudo described as being in his 60s. Cejudo felt compelled to act, tackling and subduing the suspect with the help of neighbors.
Dylan Rush also gave his account of the incident on Instagram, stating that Cejudo apprehended a hit-and-run driver who was trying to escape after crashing into a house at 80 mph in a residential area.
According to Rush, the driver punched the 65-year-old homeowner multiple times when he tried to intervene, before attempting to run away. Cejudo then chased and tackled the suspect. Neighbors assisted, with one even pointing a gun at the suspect, leading to his cooperation until police arrived.
Cejudo`s last UFC fight was in February in Seattle, where he lost to Song Yadong due to a technical decision after an eye poke. He has a 0-3 record since his return from retirement in 2023.
Due to lingering effects from the eye injury, Cejudo has mentioned possibly retiring from fighting for a second time.
