World No. 4 Iga Świątek has expressed criticism regarding the structure of the WTA tour calendar.

“The schedule is a complex topic. Everyone has their own challenges and perspective on the situation. Personally, I find the schedule to be too packed. There`s no real benefit to playing more than 20 tournaments annually. Sometimes it means sacrificing playing in my home country because I need to compete for points at WTA 500 events to ensure I don`t score zero in the rankings.”

“The obligations and rules surrounding tournaments create pressure. In my view, spectators wouldn`t stop watching tennis even if we played fewer events. This would actually allow players to be more consistent. In tennis, you essentially start over every single week, which is demanding. But it`s crucial to remember that tennis isn`t the entirety of life. You need to maintain a broader perspective and be proud of your accomplishments, even if you don`t win every time,” the Pole remarked during a press conference ahead of Wimbledon.

Świątek also shared reflections on her victory at junior Wimbledon in 2018.

“It feels like it happened in another life. It was likely the most significant moment of my career up to that point. I recall immediately after winning it felt surreal. On the other hand, when I returned home, nothing had changed because I wasn`t yet a professional player.”

“Back then, I thought life would suddenly become perfect, but I was later disappointed because everything was still the same. I had to return to consistent hard work. Then I played several ITF tournaments, which helped me remember that the true effort was just beginning. But that win gave me the belief that I could fulfill my dream of becoming a professional tennis player.”

Furthermore, the five-time Grand Slam champion was asked about potentially playing mixed doubles with Casper Ruud at the US Open.

“I enjoy watching his matches, but I enjoy it even more when we are on the same side of the court. I`ve mentioned before that if I were a child, I would definitely try to hit my forehand just like Casper. He does it exceptionally well.”

“Playing with him would be a genuine pleasure. I hope we can go far. Of course, there won`t be much time available for practice. My focus will be on simply enjoying the game and the new format.”
