India’s Film Censors Require Edits to New Superman Movie, Including ‘Sensual’ Kisses

The upcoming film “Superman,” helmed by director James Gunn, is set to receive certain modifications before it screens for audiences in India. Reports indicate that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), India`s regulatory body for motion pictures, has requested Warner Bros. Discovery implement edits prior to approving the movie for local release.

According to information circulating regarding the censor board`s review, the mandated changes include the removal or muting of specific expletives present in the film`s dialogue. Additionally, the board has specifically targeted two scenes depicting kisses between the iconic characters Clark Kent and Lois Lane.

The rationale provided for excising these particular moments centers on the board`s assessment that the on-screen embraces were excessively “sensual.” Consequently, Indian moviegoers will reportedly not see these specific instances of physical affection between the lead characters, identified as occurring near the beginning and end of the narrative. Following these required adjustments, the film is slated to receive a 13+ age rating within India.

The film, simply titled “Superman,” features David Corenswet stepping into the role of Clark Kent/Superman and Rachel Brosnahan portraying Lois Lane. Directed by James Gunn, known for his distinctive style in projects like the “Guardians of the Galaxy” series, the movie`s global premiere is scheduled for July 11, 2025.

This directive from the CBFC serves as a practical example of how cultural sensitivities and regulatory standards in specific regions can influence the final cut of globally distributed entertainment products, ensuring that even the Man of Steel`s romantic gestures are subject to local review.
