Indy 500 Preview: Schedule, Weather, and Key Details

The Indy 500, a highlight of the motorsport calendar, is here. You can follow the event live over the coming weeks.

Often called `the greatest spectacle in racing`, the event features 33 drivers competing for 200 laps on the 2.5-mile Indianapolis oval. This race is known for its intensity, with some Formula 1 drivers finding it particularly challenging or even daunting.

Defending champion Josef Newgarden aims to make history by becoming the first driver to win the Indy 500 three consecutive times.

Past winners Helio Castroneves, Alexander Rossi, Takuma Sato, Will Power, and Marcus Ericsson are also competing this year. Meanwhile, Alex Palou from Spain currently leads the IndyCar championship standings, having won four out of the first five races in what is typically a very competitive series.
