Ivan Ljubicic: Alcaraz Found His Grass Touch Quickly, Just Like Federer

Ivan Ljubicic, former coach of Roger Federer, recently highlighted several players he believes will be key figures to watch at the upcoming Wimbledon Championships.

According to Ljubicic, Carlos Alcaraz possesses all the necessary qualities for excelling on grass: sharp reactions, excellent movement, and significant power. He finds it unsurprising that Alcaraz has quickly adapted to the surface, much like Federer did. Ljubicic contrasted this with his own experience, stating it took him his entire career to find his feel for grass, emphasizing how rare and effective Alcaraz`s and Federer`s rapid adaptation is.

Looking at Jannik Sinner, Ljubicic suggested that while he should perform adequately on paper, he might not possess the same immediate comfort level on grass as Alcaraz. He acknowledged Alcaraz`s superior movement and balance on the surface, though Sinner is improving his game on grass, particularly his serve. Ljubicic noted that maintaining control feels less natural on grass.

Ljubicic also issued a reminder about Novak Djokovic. He pointed out that a player with seven Wimbledon titles can never be considered an underdog. Furthermore, Djokovic is in good form following his performance at Roland Garros and is highly motivated, making him a strong contender.

Among other players, Ljubicic mentioned Lorenzo Musetti, whose lack of grass warm-up tournaments could present challenges, but still advised keeping a close eye on him. He also highlighted Jack Draper, who benefits from playing at home and performs very well on grass. Finally, Ljubicic is waiting to see the form and tournament start of Matteo Berrettini, expressing hope that Wimbledon will evoke positive memories for the Italian player.
