Jack Della Maddalena Claims Welterweight Title at UFC 315, Prompts Reaction from Islam Makhachev and Others

Jack Della Maddalena and Belal Muhammad delivered a tremendous fight in the UFC 315 main event. Both competitors earned significant praise from fellow fighters, regardless of the outcome, for their incredible battle.

The championship bout on Saturday was widely described as “What a fight,” fitting considering Della Maddalena and Muhammad exchanged heavy blows for all five rounds. Ultimately, Della Maddalena secured the victory in this predominantly striking affair, earning a unanimous decision over Muhammad to become the new UFC Welterweight Champion.

This title shot represents a significant turn for Della Maddalena, who was originally scheduled to face Leon Edwards in March but was moved to challenge Muhammad after top contender Shavkat Rakhmonov withdrew due to injury. Pre-fight discussion heavily focused not on the matchup itself, but on the potential implications for Islam Makhachev: a Muhammad win might deter Makhachev`s welterweight ambitions and perhaps lead to a fight with Ilia Topuria at UFC 317, while a Muhammad loss could pave the way for Makhachev to move up and challenge Della Maddalena.

It now appears Makhachev intends to pursue these potential plans, stating on Twitter:

“Time to become a double champion. Let’s go.”
