Sibling rivalry is definitely a real thing for Jake Paul and his older brother, Logan Paul.
The first episode of their new reality series, “Paul American,” now available on Max, shows the moment Jake announced his plans to fight Mike Tyson. This fight became one of the most-watched events in combat sports history. However, soon after the fight was set, Logan discussed it on his podcast with KSI, their business partner in Prime Energy Drink, and they made fun of the match because of Tyson`s age. Tyson, who is now 58, had accepted Jake`s challenge.
This led to a tense phone call between the brothers after Jake watched the podcast episode.
“I’m doing everything I can to make this the biggest event possible,” Jake told Logan. “You’re the closest person to this, and you’re undermining it by sitting there with KSI and talking badly about it. I don’t understand you, brother.”
In a separate part of the show, Jake said that Logan has always done this to him, so he wasn`t completely surprised it happened after he announced the biggest opportunity of his career.
“Logan constantly undermines me whenever he can,” Jake explained. “He’s sitting there with my biggest enemy, KSI, talking badly about the biggest achievement of my life. That’s not what brothers should do.”
Logan and KSI have become close in recent years, but Jake`s issues with KSI are well-known, making the podcast episode even harder for Jake to accept.
However, Logan didn’t think his comments were that critical, especially since he believed his opinion wouldn`t stop people from watching the fight.
“Nobody is going to decide not to watch Mike Tyson because I said he’s old. Everyone knows he’s old,” Logan said. “Bro, what podcast did you even watch? I supported you the whole time! I said you could knock him out in the second round. I said if you guys really fought, you would beat him.”
“Bro, who are you listening to? I’m not just going to agree with you all the time. Get other people to tell you it’s going to be a good fight against Mike Tyson. He’s old, bro!”
Jake was still upset, trying to explain that how people see things is important, and having a family member disrespect the fight was bad for promoting the event.
“That’s not the point, brother,” Jake said. “It’s about selling the fight. It’s coming from my own brother.”
The conversation then turned negative, with Jake criticizing Logan’s personal relationships.
“I have great friends and family. You don’t even have a single real friend, bro. Mike [Majlak, their podcast co-host] is just a paid friend.”
Logan fired back with the same accusation, and the conversation ended with Jake hanging up on his brother.
“You live in a house with your paid friends,” Logan said. “He hung up. What a bitch.”
During the episode, Jake and Logan’s mother admitted that it’s hard for her to see her sons arguing, especially when they become so mean to each other.
Logan admitted that his personality often clashes with Jake’s, which can create difficult situations.
“Jake is tough, but he’s also sensitive, and I’m an asshole,” Logan said. “It’s not a good combination.”
Jake seemed to agree, especially about Logan’s attitude towards him.
“Sometimes I just don’t understand why Logan treats me this way,” Jake said. “It’s like he has no empathy for his younger brother and is always trying to tear me down.”
This difficult conversation happened just a day before Jake and Logan Paul were supposed to meet with Warner Bros. Discovery to propose their reality show idea. Fortunately, they resolved their issues, and Logan later told his brother that he had even edited the podcast episode to remove some of the comments about the Tyson fight.
Jake eventually fought and defeated Tyson by decision in a match watched by 100 million viewers on Netflix.
