Jake Paul and Matchroom Boxing Resolve Lawsuit

Jake Paul and Matchroom Boxing have come to an agreement, settling their legal disagreements and jointly requesting a New York federal court to dismiss their mutual lawsuits.

According to court documents submitted to the United States District Court, Southern District of New York on Monday, lawyers representing all involved parties have asked for a dismissal. This request follows a previous notification indicating that a settlement had been reached.

The official court filing from Monday states: “The involved parties, through their legal representatives, in accordance with Rule 41(a)(1)(ii) of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, hereby agree to dismiss the aforementioned legal action with prejudice, and without any costs or fees imposed on either side.”

In a separate document filed on March 18, lawyers for Jake Paul and Matchroom Boxing, led by Eddie Hearn, along with judge Glenn Feldman, informed the court that a settlement agreement was in place and that all parties would be seeking a dismissal.

That earlier filing mentioned: “Matchroom Boxing Limited, Edward John Hearn, Plaintiff-Intervenor Glenn Feldman (collectively referred to as `Plaintiffs`), and Defendant Jake Paul (collectively `Parties`), are jointly writing to inform the Court that they have reached a Settlement Agreement. As per the agreement, the Parties anticipate filing a Stipulation of Dismissal on or before March 31, 2025.”

The dispute originated from comments and accusations made by Paul regarding the controversial scoring of the first fight between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano in 2022, as well as a separate match between Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua.

Matchroom Boxing`s initial lawsuit claimed that Paul made defamatory statements suggesting Matchroom Boxing had “bribed” judge Glenn Feldman “to manipulate the outcomes of two boxing matches he judged.”

In an interview, Paul stated that “it`s clear [Glenn Feldman] is being paid by Matchroom Boxing” after Feldman scored fights in favor of Taylor and Joshua, both of whom are promoted by Hearn. Paul asserted this was “an accusation that [he doesn`t] take lightly” but added “it’s blatantly obvious and they aren’t even trying to hide it.”

Consequently, Matchroom Boxing initiated a defamation lawsuit against Paul, and Feldman joined as a co-plaintiff in October 2022.

Despite the ongoing legal battle, Paul`s Most Valuable Promotions and Hearn`s Matchroom Boxing collaborated to promote the rematch between Taylor and Serrano last November. A third fight between them is currently scheduled for July 11 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

A settlement conference was initially planned for December after Judge Paul Gardephe of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York rejected Paul`s request to dismiss the lawsuit in September. This rejection led to a pre-trial conference a few weeks later.

The specific terms of the settlement agreement have not been made public. However, it seems all parties are satisfied with the resolution, as they have jointly requested the court to dismiss the lawsuits.
