Darren Cahill, the coach of world number one Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner, has admitted that his player broke his diet rules.
According to Cahill, Sinner allowed himself a moment of indulgence following his tough loss at Roland Garros 2024. In the Grand Slam tournament`s semifinal, Jannik was defeated by Carlos Alcaraz in five sets, despite having won the first two.
Cahill recounted the moment during an interview with ESPN: “About half an hour after the match, he went to the press conference. We were walking towards the transport, there was a large bus where we all sit together. And at the exit from Roland Garros for the players, there`s a jar of candy. You can grab a few on the go.”
“Then Jannik took the whole jar. He grabbed the glass jar and ate all the candy. And before that, he had kept to a strict diet for two weeks.”
“In the car, Jannik was handing out candy to everyone, laughing and chuckling. He quickly switched off then,” Cahill added, describing Sinner`s ability to move past the defeat.
