World No. 5 Jasmine Paolini discussed the significant role fellow Italian Sara Errani plays in her recent successes. Paolini shared her thoughts after reaching the final of the tournament in Rome.
“You are the first Italian in the Rome final since your doubles partner. How much has she helped you in your career, especially this week? I saw her cheering you on before your comeback in the last match.”
“Yes, she is like a part of my team. She watches my matches very often. In the last match, she played a key role; she helped me a lot,” Paolini responded.
“Being in the final, just like she was once, is amazing. It`s simply great.”
“Due to pressure and expectations, some players find it difficult to replicate success after a big season. How are you managing to perform so well this year after all your achievements last year?”
“I try to keep in mind that last year was great, and it gave me confidence that I need to remember, along with a lot of acquired experience,” she explained.
“At the same time, this year is a completely different story, a new start. I kind of remind myself: `Look, you had an amazing season last year.` And I try to use that to keep moving forward,” Paolini concluded at the press conference.
