Jean Silva put on a dominant performance on Saturday night, defeating Bryce Mitchell with a ninja choke submission in their highly anticipated UFC 314 featherweight bout. Silva had predicted a strong finish, and he delivered emphatically.
Despite a somewhat cautious start, Silva found his rhythm, effectively striking Mitchell and defending against all takedown attempts. After knocking Mitchell down in the second round, Silva maintained his aggressive approach, securing a ninja choke that forced Mitchell to tap out just as he was losing consciousness from the submission hold.
The fight concluded in the second round.
“I’m the next champion!” Silva exclaimed after the victory. He also expressed concern for Mitchell, stating, “I was surprised because I thought it was part of the game [to touch gloves]. I’m sad for him. I hope and pray and help out Bryce Mitchell because I don’t think he’s right in the head.”
Mitchell began the fight with nervous energy, landing a couple of leg kicks to keep Silva at bay. Silva initially smiled and didn`t fully unleash his powerful strikes, but he started to show more effective offense as the first round progressed.
Towards the end of the first round, Silva unleashed a spinning heel kick followed by a guillotine choke, putting Mitchell in serious danger just before the bell.
In the second round, Silva found his stride and dropped Mitchell with a powerful right hand. Instead of going to the ground, Silva allowed Mitchell to stand, continuing the striking battle.
Mitchell became increasingly desperate with his takedown attempts, but Silva easily defended them. Utilizing superior speed and power, Silva consistently struck Mitchell before capitalizing on another grappling attempt to lock in the ninja choke.
Mitchell tried to escape the choke by rolling, but this only tightened Silva`s grip, leading to Mitchell being submitted and losing consciousness moments later.
Having called out Mitchell after his previous victory, Silva exceeded expectations at UFC 314 and is proving to be a formidable opponent in the featherweight division. He boasts a perfect 5-0 record in the UFC, with all wins coming by either knockout or submission.
