UFC veteran Jeff Molina has received a 36-month suspension for his involvement in the betting scandal surrounding coach James Krause.
The former top-15 flyweight learned of his punishment on Tuesday during a Nevada Athletic Commission meeting, following an agreement with the state attorney general. He is also required to pay $235.56 in prosecution fees.
The situation began with Molina’s teammate Darrick Minner’s fight against Shayilan Nuerdanbieke at UFC Vegas 64 in November 2022. Suspicion arose when betting odds dramatically shifted just before the event, with Minner becoming a significant underdog before losing in 67 seconds.
Krause and Minner were initially suspended for not reporting an injury before the fight, but the investigation focused on a potential betting scandal that led sportsbooks to stop taking bets on UFC fights.
Molina was initially suspended in December 2022 as the investigation into betting irregularities related to Krause began. Deputy Attorney General Matthew Feeley revealed on Tuesday that Molina’s suspension was due to failing to disclose Minner’s injury and then betting on the fight`s outcome.
Feeley stated that Molina, knowing about Minner`s serious injury, violated regulations by not informing the commission and by placing significant bets on Minner’s fight.
The suspension is retroactive to Minner’s fight date, making Molina eligible to compete again on or after November 5, 2025.
Krause has been effectively banned from the UFC, with the organization severing ties and warning fighters against associating with him to avoid removal from the promotion.
UFC stated in December 2022 that fighters coached by or training with Krause would not be allowed to participate in UFC events pending government investigations.
Molina has been largely silent since his initial suspension and was removed from the UFC roster in January 2023.
Now facing his punishment, the 27-year-old fighter is cleared to return to competition in November 2025.
