A scheduled fight for the upcoming UFC Vegas 107 event on May 31st has been impacted by a withdrawal.
Sources with knowledge of the promotion`s planning have confirmed that veteran competitor Jeremiah Wells is out of his previously scheduled matchup against Andreas Gustafsson. The reasons behind Wells` removal from the card, set to take place at the UFC APEX and headlined by Erin Blanchfield vs. Maycee Barber, were not disclosed. The organization is currently actively searching for a new opponent to step in and face Gustafsson.
This planned bout would have marked Wells` first appearance in the Octagon in fifteen months. The 38-year-old fighter initially had a strong start in the promotion, securing four consecutive victories. However, he has since faced two consecutive losses, first via submission to Carlston Harris, followed by a split decision defeat against Max Griffin at UFC Vegas 86 in February 2024.
Andreas Gustafsson, 34, is slated to make his debut under the UFC banner on this card. He earned his spot by securing a contract on Dana White’s Contender Series last August, where he achieved a second-round knockout victory over Pat Pytlik. Gustafsson is currently enjoying a three-fight winning streak leading up to his promotional debut.
UFC Vegas 107`s main event features a crucial women`s flyweight encounter between top contenders Erin Blanchfield and Maycee Barber. The updated fight card still features several other bouts planned for both the main and preliminary portions of the event.
