World No. 69 Jessica Bouzas Maneiro has disclosed the threats she receives from fans on social media platforms.
She stated, “We all get death threats, threats against our families. It`s incredibly harsh. Betting brings in huge sums, but I don`t understand why we have to receive threats every single day, regardless of whether we win or lose.”
Maneiro continued, “I`ve received messages saying `we`ll see you soon,` they`ll find out where I live, kill my pet, and then go after my mother. When you tell a regular person about this, they are usually surprised and say, `That can`t be true!` But it is really happening. Maybe not to 100% of players, but definitely to 99.9%.”
