Former world No. 1 Jimmy Connors has given his assessment of Andrey Rublev`s partnership with Marat Safin.
“Rublev needs someone like himself, with a similar attitude and character; someone who can understand his experiences during both successes and setbacks. Safin was reminiscent of Ilie Nastase: you never knew what to expect next, and that made the game more exciting. When he played great tennis, it was even better.”
“In my opinion, this could be a very good option for Rublev, especially since Safin has been away from tennis for a long time. He`s probably been watching from the sidelines and gradually analyzing this guy`s game piece by piece. Maybe he reached out and said, `Hey, I have some ideas`.”
“It`s like Djokovic and Murray – why not give it a try? Try it and see,” Connors said on his podcast Advantage Connors.
