World No. 60 Joao Fonseca shared his perspective on whether the men`s tour lives up to his childhood expectations.
“It`s a tricky question. I think it does. Maybe when you watch tennis on TV, you see the top players enjoying their victories. But it`s not that easy; it`s a gradual process: Futures, Challengers, fighting to break into the Top 100. It`s a long road to the main tournaments.”
“When I watched tennis as a kid, I wanted to be here and thought it would be simple. But no, the journey is long. Fortunately, I went through it quickly, having played some great tournaments, and reached this level already.”
“It`s a pleasant experience. When you get to these kinds of tournaments, everything is amazing. Everything is perfectly organized, impeccable: food, accommodation. When you`re fighting your way through Futures and Challengers, it`s far from ideal. That`s my opinion,” said the 18-year-old Brazilian at a press conference after his defeat in the Miami Masters Round of 32.
