Joe Pyfer has confirmed the reason for his withdrawal from Saturday`s UFC Mexico main card fight against Kelvin Gastelum.
The UFC announced the late cancellation just hours before the Fight Night event in Mexico City, citing illness as the reason for Pyfer`s withdrawal. Shortly after, Pyfer addressed the situation on his Instagram, stating his disappointment and declaring he will no longer fight outside of the United States.
“I am heartbroken that I couldn’t fight today,” Pyfer wrote. “I became very ill, and I hope we can reschedule this fight in the coming weeks. Unfortunately, this is a risk of traveling internationally. I apologize to everyone. I will be back.”
Pyfer`s UFC record is 4 wins and 1 loss. His only defeat was against Jack Hermansson in the main event of UFC Vegas 86 in February 2024. Most recently, the 28-year-old achieved a quick victory over Marc-Andre Barriault at UFC 303 in June, stopping him in just 85 seconds.
Gastelum was also returning to competition after nine months. His last fight was a victory over Daniel Rodriguez at UFC Saudi Arabia.
