UFC fighter Joe Pyfer has withdrawn from the UFC Mexico event due to illness.
The UFC announced on Saturday that Pyfer was forced to pull out of his main card fight against Kelvin Gastelum because of illness. As a result, the flyweight match between Edgar Chairez and CJ Vergara has been moved up from the preliminary card, according to UFC.com.
Both Pyfer and Gastelum were scheduled to compete for the first time in 2025, aiming to build on their recent wins from June. At UFC 303, Pyfer achieved a first-round knockout victory against Marc-Andre Barriault, while Gastelum secured a decision win over Daniel Rodriguez at a Fight Night event in Saudi Arabia.
It remains unclear whether the fight will be rescheduled for a future event or if Pyfer and Gastelum will be matched up with different opponents.
UFC Mexico is headlined by a flyweight contender fight featuring two-time champion Brandon Moreno and recent title challenger Steve Erceg. The event will continue with a total of 12 fights.
