Joe Rogan Criticizes UFC 314 Stoppage as “One of the Worst Ever”

During UFC 314, commentator Joe Rogan witnessed what he believes to be an exceptionally poor referee decision.

In the final preliminary featherweight match between Dan Ige and Sean Woodson, referee Andrew Glenn intervened in a way that drew heavy criticism. The fight was shaping up to be a competitive three-round affair, but Glenn`s early stoppage prevented a natural conclusion.

In the third round, Dan Ige gained an advantageous position over Sean Woodson, prompting Woodson to attempt a takedown. While Woodson was holding onto Ige`s leg, Ige responded with hammer fists. As the fighters were still actively engaged in this struggle, referee Andrew Glenn stopped the fight.

Immediately reacting from the commentary booth, Joe Rogan strongly condemned Glenn`s decision.

Rogan exclaimed, “That’s crazy! That was a bad stoppage. Really bad. I just don’t understand it.”

He continued his criticism, stating, “That’s a terrible stoppage, truly one of the worst I’ve ever seen. You have to give a fighter time to recover. Woodson was defending himself, even while taking some strikes.”

The official time of the controversial stoppage was recorded at 1:12 in the third round.

Fellow commentator Daniel Cormier expressed sympathy for Sean Woodson, highlighting the potential negative consequences of the premature stoppage.

Cormier commented, “This could have impacted Woodson`s ranking for next week. He also loses a portion of his earnings. It would be interesting to see the judges` scorecards at that point, especially if Woodson was ahead, as this decision completely undermined his fight.”

Official scorecards later revealed that Ige was indeed leading by two rounds, but the controversial stoppage eliminated any possibility of a comeback from Woodson.
