While Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall may not see eye-to-eye on many things recently, they share a common position when it comes to allowing the UFC to control any official announcements about their potential bout.
Jones, currently in Thailand for filming a reality show, conducted a seminar over the past weekend. During the event, he was questioned about the potential timeline for his anticipated heavyweight title unification fight against Aspinall. Jones has previously mentioned that he has informed the UFC about his future intentions, which he suggested might explain why the promotion has not addressed calls for his title to be vacated.
It has only been half a year since Jones last competed, and it appears discussions with the UFC regarding his return date have occurred.
“The UFC, Tom, and I have a lot happening behind the scenes,” Jones told those attending his seminar. “They are one of the biggest organizations in sports, and right now Tom and I have agreed to wait for the UFC to make their announcements. So I legally can`t really talk about it.”
Aspinall conveyed a similar sentiment recently. After briefly hinting at upcoming news on social media, he quickly tempered expectations by stating firmly that he does not announce his own fights and leaves that responsibility to the UFC.
Jones and Aspinall have engaged in frequent exchanges through interviews and social media over the past few weeks, reflecting growing impatience due to the lack of concrete information regarding their potential fight.
UFC CEO Dana White has consistently guaranteed that the fight will be scheduled. However, Aspinall has repeatedly voiced his frustration as he approaches a full year of inactivity, with his last victory dating back to July 2024.
While Jones`s most recent statement does not provide a definitive answer, it suggests he is actively engaging in discussions with the UFC and acknowledges that a fight against Aspinall is the highly anticipated matchup the public wants to see.
