Kevin Holland Defeats Gunnar Nelson by Decision at UFC London

Kevin Holland`s future might be brighter at welterweight, judging by his recent performance at UFC London.

Returning to 170 pounds, Holland effectively neutralized Gunnar Nelson`s offense and landed a powerful knockdown in the first round, almost finishing the fight. Despite Nelson`s late submission attempt, Holland`s superior skills prevailed, leading him to a clear victory.

All judges scored the bout 29-28 in favor of Holland, marking his return to the win column after previous losses at middleweight.

“I wasn’t sure how the decision would go. Gunnar is incredibly tough,” Holland admitted post-fight. “People doubt my grappling, but I can grapple well, especially against someone my own size.”

“Welterweight feels right for me athletically. I`m ready to fight again around July at 170 pounds, or even next week at 185 if needed.”

Nelson initially closed the distance and secured a takedown, but Holland actively defended with submission attempts from his back. Nelson maintained control briefly before Holland escaped and landed a decisive straight punch, knocking Nelson down.

Holland followed up with strikes, appearing to land a significant blow just as the round ended.

In the subsequent round, Nelson desperately sought to grapple, but Holland remained elusive. Nelson managed another takedown, yet Holland continued to strike effectively from the bottom.

Back on their feet, Nelson persistently pursued a takedown, while Holland countered with knee strikes. Nelson eventually took Holland down and attempted an arm-triangle choke.

However, Holland successfully defended and returned to his feet, where he began to dominate the grappling specialist with strikes. Nelson endured until the fight`s conclusion, but Holland`s victory was evident.

Despite some mixed results at welterweight, Holland has demonstrated greater competitiveness in this division. It remains to be seen whether he will remain at welterweight or return to middleweight for a more active fight schedule.
